Pictured above is a galvanized steel torsion spring, we used to install the galvanized torsion springs. We found that they weren't lasting as long as the oil tempered springs, so we only install the oil tempered torsion springs now.
To keep you springs running smoothly we recommend spraying them with some WD-40 at least once a year. The springs bears the weight of the garage door, the opener pushes and pulls the garage door up and down. Garage door springs have a tendency to break during extreme weather changes. And when you have two springs, they will usually break one at a time, but we recommend changing both at the same time because if you only change one the other is going to break soon after.
